A barge transporting construction boulders ran aground Raa Atoll Inguraidhoo island after unloading.
President of the Inguraidhoo Island Council Abdul Fathah Idrees said the barge had carried boulders for the seawall and had run aground as it was leaving the island.
However, no was injured in the incident, he added
He said the strong tides had carried it on the reef.
"The barge ran aground while attempting to leave shortly after unloading the cargo. We believe the barge can be re-floated once high tide comes," Idris said.
Maldives Transport Contracting Company (MTCC) is responsible for the building of the Inguraidhoo port.
