Maldives minister reveals plans for special construction law

Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday revealed government plans to bring in a special law to minimize the challenges faced by the construction industry in the Maldives.

While speaking at a seminar held at Hotel Jen on Wednesday by the Maldives Association of Construction Industry (MACI) regarding the setbacks present in the construction field and to discuss ways through which to improve the field, the Minister stated that a bill had now been drafted to bring the construction law into existence, and vowed that it would be introduced to the Parliament very soon.

The minister stated that the bill would designed to ease the challenges in the construction industry and to open the doors for every business to flourish in the sector.

While noting that much progress had been made in the Maldivian construction industry, the minister said president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's strong policies had been the reason behind the success.

The minister stated that it had been difficult for small and medium enterprises to progress in the Maldivian market earlier, but that it had changed after President Yameen took office.
