Over USD600,000 withdrawn daily, says BML

Statistics from the Bank of Maldives (BML) has revealed that over USD600,000 were withdrawn daily from the bank's ATMs last year.

At the ceremony held earlier Saturday to unveil the bank's three new dollar ATMs, the Deputy CEO of BML Mohamed Shareef said USD220 million were withdrawn from the banks ATMs in 2016. Divided monthly, it becomes MVR18.3 million with USD611,111 daily.

BML has been housing two dollar ATMs in it's Head Office, with another ATM at the Velana International Airport. The three new dollar ATMs were opened near the Artificial Beach.

BML statistics further reveal that transactions worth USD19 million took place through BML cards in 2016, with a total value of MVR23 billion. This amounts to MVR40,000 worth of transactions per minute.

The dollar ATMs in the BML Head Office will provide service until the 25th of this month, before switching to rufiyaa accounts.
