Over 1600 job applicants at 'Youth Career Expo'

  • Over 4000 in attendance
  • 1000 jobs on offer
  • Large youth numbers

The Economic Ministry on Sunday has stated that there were 4,000 people in attendance at the job fair held in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale the day before where 1,600 had already submitted job applications.

Deputy economic minister, Adam Thaufeeq reported to 'Avas' that 4000 people attending showed the appreciation towards the fair, and that there were 1600 applications for the 1000 jobs offered at the fair.

"This fair shows the interest the younger generation has towards finding jobs. The Ministry will very closely observe how the jobs are given to applicants from this fair," the Deputy Minister said.

Around 1000 jobs were offered to prospective applicants at the Youth Career Expo organised by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Economic Ministry. The majority of companies that took part in the fair were companies operating in Hulhumale. The Treetop Hospital set to open this year in Hulhumale was the largest provider of jobs at the fair.

As part of the government's efforts to secure job opportunities for the youth of the nation, the government plans to open up 95,000 jobs within the country. Over 64,000 jobs have already been opened within the past three years by the government under this initiative.
