Maldives must follow China example to revive traditions, says minister

Maldivians must learn lessons from China in sustaining traditions and proud nationality, youth minister Iruthisham Adam said Monday.

Speaking during the show held at Olympus last night to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the minister stated that the traditions of a nation represented the identity of its people.

The Minister noted that this is one of the best reasons to revitalize traditions, adding that the people would realize the importance of traditions once its lost.

"We should take example from China, and try and revive the proud culture and traditions we have in Maldives," minister noted.

"I call the Maldivian youth to bring life to the traditions of our ancestors and to honor them,"

The Minister also noted that the government of president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom gives high priority to bringing out local traditions in the local population.

"The NCA [National Centre for the Arts] team and I are working to enforce President Yameen's goals for music, traditions and other performance arts," the Minister stated.

The Chinese Ambassador Wang Fukang also spoke at the event, stating that the relations between China and Maldives have always been close, noting that it has now grown even stronger in recent years.

This will be the 45th year since diplomatic relations have been established between Maldives and China, an event which will be colorfully celebrated in the Maldives.
