High Court annuls order to delay Kaadedhdhoo airport takeover

High Court has annulled the lower court order to hold off on the takeover of the domestic airport in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Kaadhdhedhoo island from the Villa Group.

Government last month had decided to takeover the domestic airport in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Kaadedhdhoo island and downgraded the international airport in Gaaf Alif Atoll Maamigili island to a domestic airport.

Both airports had been operated by Villa Group owned by business tycoon and lawmaker Gasim Ibrahim.

Government had said that the Villa Group had violated several civil aviation regulations prompting the government to scrap the agreements.

However, the Villa Group had challenged the decision urging the civil court to annul the takeover notice.

The court had delayed the takeover until a verdict can be reached.

However, after the government appealed the lower court order, the appellate court annulled the order insisting that it was against judicial and legal norms.
