Maldives seeks India, Sri Lanka aid in search for missing fishing boat

Maldives coastguard has requested Sri Lankan and Indian aid in the search for the missing local fishing vessel.

The missing boat, named Blue Fish 1, last made contact off the coast of Kaafu Atoll Dhiffushi island on Monday. The boat had twelve local fishermen on board when it had gone missing.

The coastguard spokesperson, captain Ibrahim Azim stated that the local military had requested assistance from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of Sri Lankan and Indian Coast Guards in the hunt for the missing fishing boat.

The boat reportedly has enough supplies to last the crew twelve days, according to Azim. Six days has passed since the boat last made contact.

The 87 foot boat has a bright blue and white exterior.

The Maldivian military has recently completed a successful operation in locating two missing Sri Lankan fishermen. The operation which had started after Sri Lanka requested Maldivian aid in the search of the two missing fishermen had ended after both had been found and safely transported back to Sri Lanka.
