Transformer damage causes city-wide power outage

A city-wide power outage for two hours on Sunday after a transformer was damaged.

The power outage occurred just past 1pm on Sunday which led to a disruption in water supply for some parts of the capital.

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) said the power outage was caused by a damaged transformer at the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

STELCO had restored power to most of the city shortly after 3pm adding that the entire city would have electricity as soon as possible.

The outage had also disrupted mobile and internet service.
