Maldives vogue model's death: Suspicion falls on classmate

Parents of Raudha Athif, a Maldivian student and model who was found dead at a medical college dormitory in Rajshahi, continue to suspect their daughter was murdered with new suspicions on a fellow student colleague.

The 20 year old was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room by one a fellow student. Her autopsy report said she killed herself by hanging. However, her family members rejected the report and said they were considering seeking a second autopsy. The Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police is now investigating the case further.

Daily Star News of Bangladesh quoted Inspector Rashidul of DB having said police were now examining the mobile phone of one of the victim's classmates though it had not been seized yet.

Raudha's mother Aminath Muharrimath alleged that the same girl had mixed sleeping pills in Raudha's juice weeks before her death.

“Raudha used to study with her usually, but one night she told me that she was studying alone. After I asked her what had happened, she told me that she doesn't trust her anymore,” Muharrimath had told Daily Star.

Question marks have been raised over the validity of Raudha's autopsy and college. Two top Maldivian police officials are assisting the Detective Branch of police in probing the death.

Two years ago, while experimenting with her pictures on social media she became a sensation in the country as the ‘Maldivian Girl With Aqua Blue Eyes’.

The picture landed her on the cover of Vogue along with five other women from South Asia.
