Bridge contractor to design Male-Hulhumale water network

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has contracted out the designing of the Male-Hulhumale water network system via the China-Maldives friendship bridge to CCCC Engineering Ltd.

The signing ceremony on Tuesday took place between MWSC’s Managing Director Fazul Rasheed and CCCC Second Harbour Project Manager Huang Long.

CCCC Engineering Pvt Ltd is also the contractor for the Male-Hulhumale bridge.

The project was awarded for USD 200,000 (MVR 3.1 million) to be completed within a period of 70 days.

Speaking during the ceremony, Fazul stated that the completion of the linking pipelines will ease the water distribution process across Male. He added that further details of the water supply network will be revealed after the designs become complete.

The bridge dubbed China-Maldives Friendship bridge is being financed with USD126 million in grant aid and a concessionary loan from China along with USD12.6 million from the state budget.

The over water Male-Hulhumale Bridge will stretch out to 1.39 kilometers in length and 20 meters in width.
