Pakistan PM reiterates 'high importance' to Maldives ties

Pakistan Prime minister Nawaz Sharif has revealed that the country gives great importance to it's relationship with the Maldives.

Speaking during the meeting with visiting Maldives foreign minister Dr Mohamed Asim, Sharif remarked that both countries are bound by ties of common faith and mutual understanding.

According to news outlet NDTV, stated that it was encouraging to see the parliamentary cooperation between both countries grow and further stressed that the countries need to work on enhancing their trade alliance.

Sharif also mentioned the importance of SAARC during the meeting. He said that SAARC is a progressing organisation and added that Pakistan will continue supporting their regulations and objectives.

"Pakistan hopes to promote peace and cooperation within the South Asia countries, for which security and stability are prerequisites" said Sharif.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is the regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of nations in South Asia. Its member states include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. SAARC was founded in 1985.
