Tourist arrivals up 4.3 percent

Despite a slight in tourist arrivals last month, arrivals so far this year has shown an increase of 4.3 percent, tourism ministry statistics showed.

According to the statistics, between January and March this year, 359,053 tourists arrived in the archipelago in comparison with 344،166 during the same period last year.

Arrivals from Europe continued to improve with a 7.6 increase for the first three months compared to the same period last year. The biggest contributor to the hike was the 41.5 percent increase in Russian tourists compared to last year.

Except for the UK and Germany, arrivals from Italy and France had also recorded a healthy increase, according to the statistics.

Chinese market however, continued to slide with 73،135 arrivals in the first three months in comparison to 79،312 in the same period last year.
