JSC again seeks judges for High Court

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Thursday has re-announced two vacant judicial posts in the high court as the number of candidates who applied for the post were insufficient.

JSC revealed that they announced the judicial post vacancy again as the number of applicants were inappropriate to merit selection.

Interested individuals have till June 1 to submit their applications.

In a judicial reshuffle, JSC had transferred judge Shujau Usman, who was presiding on the high court panel before, to the southern division of the court, which had left an additional vacant spot in the high court’s panel.

This is the fourth time since the reshuffle that JSC is announcing the vacancy.

Interested individuals have till April 18 to submit their applications.

Applicants must be at least 25-years-old, and must have an LLB and a degree in Islamic Shariah. The ideal candidate will not be in a political post, or be affiliated with any political parties either.

Further, the applicant must not have any criminal convictions and must be clear of any terrorism and sexually-motivated charges.

The salary for a high court judge is MVR36,000, and they get an additional MVR15,000 as a living allowance. They also get MVR3,300 as a risk allowance and as per parliament recommendation, they are to receive a phone allowance and medical insurance as well.
