Govt limits universal health insurance

Universal health insurance provider 'Aasandha' on Saturday, that the company will hereafter only provide health insurance services at government health centres.

Aasandha Company had made the statement via a circular released Saturday. The company announced that the services provided to private health centres were put to a stop in order to revise their health insurance scheme’s regulations. They further added that the decision was made by the national board of health insurance systems.

The circular stated that Aasandha will cover the insurance of patients who are currently admitted or receiving treatment at private health centres under the insurance and called on the centres to share the necessary information regarding the in-house patients.

The circular also disclosed that agreements made with private health centres will be terminated and noted that an invoice of health services provided in the last 30 days must be sent to the company.

The government’s health insurance scheme, “Husnuvaa Aasandha”- health insurance for all without a ceiling was launched by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in February 2014, as part of the Government’s key electoral pledges to provide comprehensive medicare for a healthy population.
