Emirates marks three decades in Maldives

Emirates celerated 30 years of service in the Maldives on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony held to mark the 30th anniversary of Emirates at Velana International Airport (VIA), managing director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Adil Moosa noted the benefits and progress brought to the tourism sector of Maldives by the service of Emirates.

Adil revealed that Emirates first started operating in the Maldives in May 1987, adding that the airline had scheduled flights twice a week at that time.

District manager of Emirates also spoke during the ceremony and said that as one of the largest airlines operating in Maldives, Emirates hopes to continue to further expand their services in the country.

Emirates has been operating in the Maldives since 1987, and their first aircraft to be operated in the Maldives was a B727 airliner. Starting at two flights a week, Emirates has come a long way and now operates four flights daily using a 300 seater B300-777ER jet airliner craft.
