An online petition was started an year ago that was to be submitted to the relevant ministries to open a veterinarian clinic, with special equipment and an animal shelter in the Maldives.

A large population of the Maldives domesticate different breeds of birds and cats in their homes; however, there is no veterinarian service established in the country. A large number of domesticated animals end up on the streets as a result of the lack of animal shelters in the Maldives.
