Jailed minister's brother arrested

Jailed former defence minister Rtd. Colonel Mohamed Nazim’s younger brother Adam Azim has been arrested.

Azim, who has been adamantly calling for his brother’s release since he was jailed, was arrested on Thursday morning under a court order.

According to the arrest warrant, Azim was arrested for making statements about overthrowing the government and defaming the judiciary.

The police did not reveal any further details as it is an on-going case.

Late in May, Nazim was granted temporary house arrest for the month of Ramadan.

Maldives correctional services also confirmed that he will be taken back to prison after the holy month of Ramadan.
