Maldives governor to step down

Maldives governor Dr Azeema Adam is set to step down next week, Avas understands.

According to reliable sources, the governor has shared her decision with some of the senior staff of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

MMA spokesperson Mansoor Zubair however denied any knowledge of the governor's imminent decision.

Avas understands that Azeema would join her diplomat husband who had been appointed as the new permamnent representative to the UN and the Maldives ambassador to US.

Azeema was appointed as the governor in December 2013 after her predecessor Fazeel Najeeb resigned.
