A prison guard was injured on Wednesday during a minor clash with some inmates in the main prison in Kaafu Atoll Maafushi island.
Maldives correctional service said the injured guard had been taken to the state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the capital Male. However, the guard had not suffered any serious injuries.
According to the correctional service, the guards had tried to stop some inmates from destroying some electrical wires inside their cell which had led to the clash. Some of the inmates had also suffered minor injuries, prison officials said.
