Swift counter measures against voodoo and black magic

Maldives Police Service has initiated works in aptly countering the issue of black magic and voodoo and its practitioners.

Police confirms that a special discussion panel was hosted today with relevant authorities and members present at the talks where the watchdog authority had discussed on ways to counter cases related to black magic and voodoo as well as those who practice the act.

Authorities aim to develop a proper functioning law against those who practice the dark arts or black magic - which under the Islamic faith and its Sharia is deemed 'haram' or prohibited. Maldives being a state officially allowing the faith of Islam as its citizen's religion, the issue becomes all the more important.

The discussion was attended by Islamic Ministry, Prosecutor General's Office as well as the Attorney General's Office.

Although Maldives has been a Muslim state for decades, black magic or voodoo has long been in practice. However in recent days the seriousness of the matter had sparked with several reports filed.

Just last year a total of 10 cases were officially reported of black magic practicing.
