National airline, Maldivian has been assigned as the official carrier of tourists to Laamu atoll Baresdhoo.
Under the agreement signed by Baresdhoo integrated resort project's developer Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) and Island Aviation, Maldivian Airlines was assigned as the designated carrier.
Maldivian will arrange a special fare structure for Baresdhoo following the agreement.
The integrated resort project, Baresdhoo is developed with 30 guesthouses built on land along with water villas and at least 3 hotels. Guesthouses will house between 30 to 60 rooms in each outlet while the hotels will be built with 100 rooms in each of the buildings.
Baresdhoo is estimated to have 1,500 beds giving accommodation to approximately 3,000 tourists simultaneously.
MITDC's Managing Director Mohamed Shahid said the fresh concept of an integrated resort island has been well received by industry players, while he also added that talks were in place with airlines to arrange carrier under special fares. He also noted that reasonable fare prices will be implemented in carrying travelers to Baresdhoo.
The island will integrate two beach resorts with 10 beach hotels serving the visitors, with 11 restaurants and at least 40 shop outlets.
While Baresdhoo is being developed under the integrated resort concept, the neighboring island of Maakanfushi has been developed to house a powerhouse and laundry along with several other municipal services rendered to the workers and laborers. A harbor and quay wall has been constructed for vessel docking as well.
The island of Baresdhoo is developed under the model of renting out lots to resort or hotelier companies. Monthly rent varies from $500 to $45,000 per month depending on the size and type of lot or business run.
