MVR 1.9 billion in resort rent to state

The 2018 budget read on Wednesday at parliament has projected income of MVR 1.9 billion from resort rents by 2017's end.

The upcoming year's budget plan had forecast establishment and opening of new resort outlets have contributed to the increase in resort rent income while the figure is expected to rise by 16.9% next year.

The budget for next year had also included rents from resorts which had not been collected so far as well.

While the state budget has placed estimation on resort rent income hiking, the state oversaw the inception of several hospitality outlets in Maldives so far this year. Government aims to open 25 new resorts in Maldives before the end of 2017 while last year 11 new resorts were opened for business.

Furthermore government had assured the inception of 50 new resorts before the state's term is due next year.
