Malaysia Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak and First Lady Datin Paduka Rosmah Mansor arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday for a two day state visit.
Najib who is the first Malaysian PM to visit the Maldives in over three decades was welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) by foreign minister Dr Mohamed Asim and top government officials.
The last official visit was undertaken by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in 1984.
According to the President's Office, bilateral deliberations are set to take place to enhance the existing ties and development partnership between the two countries while a number of memorandums of understanding are also to be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit.
The Maldives and Malaysia currently collaborate extensively in the fields of human resources development, military and police cooperation as well as development of the institutional and legislative framework of the judiciary.
