Maldives to establish cultural centre in Malaysia

Maldives on Wednesday inked key agreements with Malaysia which included the establishment of a cultural centre in Malaysia.

During Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak's two day state visit to the archipelago, the two countries signed four memorandums of understanding on cooperation on Fire Fighting and Rescue Training, higher education and health in addition to the cultural centre in Malaysia.

Maldives has established a cultural centre in Sri Lanka where Islam and the local language Dhivehi is taught for the thousands of students in the neighbouring country.

Maldives ambassador to Malaysia Fahmy Hassan told state television in an interview that the centre in Malaysia would be similar to the one in Sri Lanka.

Prior to the agreement signing, President Yameen and the Malaysian Prime Minister had a one-to-one meeting at the President’s Office. Official talks were also held between the two governments.
