Maldives pres aims for govt's 'most successful year'

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Monday said his aim was to make 2018 the most successful year of his government.

In his new year message, the President has extended New Year greetings to all Maldivians, and highlighted the successful achievements of the government in realizing its key pledges; noting that several developmental projects were commenced and completed across the country to fulfill the basic necessities of the people.

Additionally, the President has highlighted the numerous measures taken in 2017 to promote youth empowerment - one of the key pledges; especially the increase in employment opportunities and educational opportunities facilitated by the administration.

The president also noted the huge obstacles his government faced in leading the nation during the past four years, insisting that his government has overcome most of them, and dealt with the challenges with resilience to be back on the route of success, while maintaining the current peace and stability in the country.

In his message, the President also stated that in light of the past four years, the government will work on achieving more success and progress than the previous years, and noted that the budget passed by the parliament for the year 2018 focuses on fulfilling the key pledges of the administration.
