Deputy leader of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Shifaz has criticized the incumbent state for failing to provide a safer environment for students at schools.
In a press conference held by MDP, Shifaz asserted the government failing to create a safe haven for the citizens of Maldives. He also stressed that the state had neglected to create a safe environment at educational institutes including schools.
Shifaz criticized the state for negligence leading to the apparent assaults and attacks on students and other citizens transitioning from roads and alleys to residences.
The deputy leader of MDP questioned the efficiency of government policies and initiatives of countering gang assaults and battery, adding the inadequacy of government authorities had rendered these adversities to rise.
Shifaz pointed out the 'toothless' attitude of government authorities regarding the recent assault cases, as they had been alleged to keep the details of it discreet. He lambasted the state of not taking proper initiatives to stop and intervene such attacks on students and other citizens.
Deputy leader of the prime opposition party, who is always vocal about government's responsibilities, criticized authorities of prioritizing the jailing and intimidation of politicians and political activists instead of guaranteeing safety and security for common citizens - which is considerably more crucial - and alleged the policing authority infested with political influence and corruption.
