Customs confiscate pork and alcohol from Villa resorts

Maldives Customs Service has initiated confiscating pork and alcohol products from four out of the five Villa Resorts owned by Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim's Villa Group. Customs will be taking off the said products from the resorts except Royal Island.

An official overseeing the management of the resorts reported to Avas Online that Customs authority had informed they will be visiting the four resorts to collect the products off those venues. These resorts include Fun Island, Paradise Island, Sun Island and Holiday Island.

The official had furthermore criticized the move describing it as a politically motivated act to exercise a political gain - presumably to the state run individuals. He had also said the government aims to squash Qasim Ibrahim owned businesses as the move would bring the resorts to a halt.

A team of Maldives Customs Service and Police Service had conducted raids on five of Villa Resort properties on Wednesday night.
