Coast Guard intercepts Sri Lankan fishing vessel

Maldivian Coast Guard has intercepted a Sri Lankan fishing vessel trudging through the country's economical zone.

Coast Guard has informed the fishing boat was intercepted while it was traveling 42 miles out-bound of Haa Alif atoll Thuraakunu on Saturday morning around 07:35hrs.

Authorities had discovered six fishermen on board the vessel at the time of interception.

The Sri Lankan fishing boat is currently under Coast Guard's custody and will be ported at Haa Alif atoll sometime in the afternoon of Saturday.

Recently several foreign fishing vessels and other boats are found within Maldivian waters during their expeditions. While a Sri Lankan vessel was discovered on Saturday, a Seychelles fishing vessel was found traveling through Maldivian economic area a week earlier.

Similarly Maldivian Coast Guards had intercepted two pirate vessels from Somalia trekking through Maldives.
