The conditioned release former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's lawmaker son, Ahmed Faris Maumoon has been felicitated by several of the key opposition members and supporters which included former President Mohamed Nasheed as well.
The self-exiled former head of state, Nasheed had welcomed back Faris Maumoon, who was released from the apparent arbitrary detention after the court had placed three specific conditions on him.
MP Maumoon was conditioned not to leave town without proper permission from relevant authorities, not to influence or forge evidence and also attend court without failure upon summon order.
Former President Nasheed congratulated MP Faris Maumoon on Twitter, saying "Welcome back." While several others of the opposition front had similar sentiments to share.
Other notable political figures who congratulated Maumoon included Abdulla Sinan, who according to Elections Commision has lost his eligibility as the south-Machhangolhi lawmaker. Kendhoo constituency lawmaker Ali Hussain had also tweeted his joy, referring MP Maumoon's release as a victory and adding that "more needs to be done," implying to stronger efforts by opposition in the political movement.
Many of the opposition sympathizers and members alike had described this as a pinnacle 'turnabout' in politics and the dawn of victory for the united opposition front as well as the 'beginning of losing streaks' for ruling party.
Ahmed Faris Maumoon was tried at court for the alleged bribing of parliamentarians to sway their support in favor of opposition during the no-confidence motion of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.
