Gender Ministry has announced that state has concluded not to grant Hulhumale' flats to individuals shortlisted under disabled category in 2014.
The first time state announced granting 15 disabled individuals with flats from Hulhumale' every year under a social housing scheme back in 2013. However after the 2013 flat winners were announced, many had filed complaints regarding the transparency of the evaluation process.
A second list of 15 winners under the social housing scheme were announced back in 2014. The official ceremony of handing the keys to apartments never came to fruition due several administrative setbacks.
An official of Gender Ministry, on Thursday noted that government had granted a total of 167 flats to civilians under a larger social housing scheme in 2014, that had also awarded apartments to disabled individuals. Following this, the state had concluded not to award 15 flats separately to the disabled individuals.
Gender Ministry official had further noted that under the government's new social housing scheme physically or otherwise challenged individuals will be subjected to additional scores in evaluation process through Housing Ministry for every state initiated housing scheme, thus nullifying a separate housing scheme for the handicapped individuals.
