Gender Minister concludes Laos trip

Gender Minister Zeneesha Shaheed Zaki concludes her official trip to Laos.

Minister Zaki made her official visit to Lao People's Democractic Republic from January 22 til 26, during which she met with country's Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Dr. Khampheng Saysompheng.

During her meeting with Welfare Minister of Laos, both had discussed on possibilities of working together towards creating a safe and reliable environment for elder citizens, women and children. Gender Minister had also briefed about the several government led initiatives in Maldives towards promoting gender equality and social welfare.

Minister Zaki had met with the president of 'Laos Women's Union' and talked about various programs organized by the country to promote public awareness and eradicate gender discrimination. Minister had also extracted Laos' approaches in women empowerment.

She had visited several care centers for elder, disabled citizens as well as checked in to organizations promoting children and women's rights to understand the different programs conducted by these entities. Minister Zaki had visited two orphanages and reviewed the locations while extracting information on how Laos government managed foster-care houses.

Gender Minister had made a courtesy visit to the country's Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith during her stay in the Laos. During the meeting, both ministers had discussed on ways to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Maldives and Laos as well as focused on the challenges faced by smaller nations in socio-economic development.
