The arrest warrant signed by recently sworn Criminal Court judge Hussain Shaheed cited that Faris Maumoon needs to be detained for his alleged involvement attempting to overthrow the government. Maumoon is tried with allegedly bribing several parliamentarians in an attempt to overthrow the incumbent government which would have initiated with the removal of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

The arrest warrant described Maumoon as a threat if left loose, adding he would impede on authority investigations and will attempt to corrupt evidence collected against him.

Faris Maumoon was arrested based on testimonies collected by discreet witnesses.

The Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker's representing advocate Maumoon Hameed confirmed police had not discover any evidence or material relating to state alleged offense of Maumoon's involvement to topple the government, and added he was arrested despite of this.

In a press conference Faris Maumoon spoke to local media and reporters stating that Police Commissioner personally warned him about President Yameen's intentions and his instructions to influential political elites to see the arrest through.

Maumoon got bailed on Thursday after a six month arbitrary detention. He was released by Criminal Court judge Ali Adam, who ruled that Faris Maumoon's case had stalled without any appropriate developments while he had been under detention for the duration of the case, which is legally not commonplace.

Criminal Court judge Adam had also highlighted that keeping Maumoon in detention was a direct violation on his civic rights.

Furthermore the Criminal Court judge was confident lawmaker Maumoon would not impede on the case proceedings while he had also requested for the intervention of foreign forensic analysis on the evidence presented by the state at court over the case - which would result days-long probing.

Lawmaker Maumoon claims this as a politically motivated move to incarcerate him once again using power and influence. His references were directed towards uncle and incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who according to Maumoon personally ordered the arrest of the lawmaker once again - to ascertain he was removed from political power-play.
