President's trust and confidence in Police Commissioner

Home Minister Ahmed Azleen has claimed President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has full trust and confidence in Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef.

Minister Azleen has made the statement post opposition sparking rumors of unrest inside police department. Opposition had also claimed that President Yameen lost trust in the head of police department.

Right after Faris Maumoon claimed he was met by Areef and warned him about President Yameen's order of arresting the lawmaker once again, news had spread of CP getting tossed aside from Faris Maumoon's ongoing investigation.

It was confirmed by Police Media that Deputy Commissioner Saudhee had replaced Areef as the incharge of Maumoon's case.

Home Minister had rebuked opposition's rumors over these statements, asserting the reasons behind redirecting the command of Maumoon's case to Saudhoo was not loss of trust in Areef.

In an interview with Avas Online, Home Minister Azleen stressed the opposition's aim of spreading false rumors about distrust and conflict between President and CP Areef was to soil the police chief's reputation. Minister had assured the heads of government departments are supportive of President Yameen's administration and they were always fully cooperative in top level decisions.

Home Minister had stated that several individuals on the opposition's end are attempting to create rifts in the department which would be met with futile results.
