No room for apology after social 'destruction'; Prez

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has asserted the political leaders, responsible for introducing unrest and turmoil in Maldives society and damaging the interests and sentiments of locals, do not reserve to right to seek forgiveness.

His words, though indirect it may seem, could be a slam at both former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Nasheed who had shred old feuds and agreed to work together against the ruling party and Yameen's administration.

Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim and President's half-brother Gayoom has apologized from Maldives citizens in their role of mustering support for President Yameen's transition into the top government office. President Yameen said such actions cannot be forgotten or taken back with mere apologies.

"Those who got into bed together for a specific political ideology back then cannot weasel their way out from it simply by presenting their apologies, saying 'we made a mistake' or 'we should have not done this' since such political decisions in the end effect the common people and they are the ones who face the dire consequences of it, which is not acceptable," said President Yameen.

While addressing his supporters and ruling party members on Monday night, President Yameen had severely lambasted the opposition and its key figures, and aimed a shot at his brother when he said "no one is above the law."

President Yameen had described former President Nasheed's administration has exploitative and destructive while he stressed Qasim Ibrahim's evasion from settling debt owed to the state.

He also stressed the current administration has attracted heat due to its unhinged attempts to right all the wrongs of previous governments.
