House searched over indecent FB page case

Authorities have searched a Male' residence regarding a Facebook page sharing pictures of minors with inappropriate captions.

Initially it was reported that authorities were searching the residence of Ahmed Sofwan, the former personal assistant of ex-President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom over his direct involvement in bribing parliament lawmakers during the no-confidence motion of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

However it was later confirmed that police officers were searching another apartment in the same building - and they were casing the apartment regarding the indecent Facebook page promoting explicit content.

The page was reported to Maldives Police Service over its disturbing contents; pictures of underage kids with sexually explicit captions tagged to it. The page has been successfully removed from the popular social network site.

Police Service has confirmed they were looking into the matter with a serious priority given to it.

Although uncommon, such inappropriate Facebook pages pop up every now and then with the purpose of inciting hatred or anger between the commoners.
