Political women should unite for change; Dunya Maumoon

Former foreign minister Dunya Maumoon had urged all women in political designations to come together to change the country's situation.

Marking the international women's day, Dunya had called out for women from all political backgrounds to take initiatives in order to seek effective solutions to the critical condition experienced by Maldives today.

She noted that while many of the political parties include female leaders on top designations, they could play an important role in initiating dialogue between the parties for a resolve.

"Though women are fulfilling senior roles in both opposition and ruling party, they do not seem to be reaching out to one another for dialogue to mend discord. The only way to emerge from this tumultuous situation is proper dialogue and I believe women could play an important role in this," Dunya said on Thursday.

The first female foreign minister of Maldives, Dunya Maumoon on Thursday had tweeted "I call for women across the political spectrum and all walks of life to unite for Peace, Stability and Dialogue."

Dunya Maumoon had in 2017 resigned from her held designation as foreign minister, however later on joined as a state minister at health ministry. She had resigned from the latter designation recently.

Post her resignation as state minister Dunya had strengthened her stand in addressing the February 1 apex court order, urging the government and relevant authorities to implement it accordingly.
