Defense Minister Adam Shareef on Sunday has confirmed the safety of Indian citizens residing in Maldives as well as Maldivian locals visiting the South-Asian giant would is not compromised.
Shareef had assured the diplomatic union of the two South-Asian nations are stronger than ever and it had not created rifts in light of the recent political tension brewing in the island nation.
"The trade, transaction and communication between both India and Maldives is continuing strongly while the citizens of India residing in Maldives as those of us residing in India do not have to worry about their safety getting compromised," Shareef explained in an interview to Public Service Media (PSM) on Sunday night.
He also had praised the island nation's South-Asian benefactor who had for years acted as a close confidante and aid to Maldives stating India was always ready to assist and held the archipelago.
The Maldives defense minister had also assured the island nation will respect and prioritize India's interests before others.
