Guesthouse mega project commeces in Kaashidhoo

Tourism Ministry confirms the commencement of a large scale guesthouse project at Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo on Monday.

Known for its agricultural prowess, Kaashidhoo had earlier been under the scope for a similar mega project - which failed unexpectedly.

Overseen by the Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) - authority responsible of boosting small and medium tourism ventures - the project will be officially inaugurated by tourism minister Moosa Zameer at a special ceremony.

Though MITDC managed project is set to commence on Monday, it had not disclosed further details regarding the guesthouse development at Kaashidhoo.

Meanwhile the corporation is also managing the integrated guesthouse project at Laamu atoll Baresdhoo.

The project will see a total of 30 guesthouses, including water villas and three hotels built at the island slip. Each hotel carries a bed capacity of 100 on average while guesthouses will include rooms between 25 to 50.

The integrated guesthouse project will boast a bed capacity of nearly 3,000 and would serve more than 5,000 tourists simultaneously.

While government has taken initiative to boost local tourism at Kaashidhoo a few of its locals currently operate small-scale guesthouse ventures while a private contractor had received council permit to construct a city hotel in the island - which is currently underway.
