Govt discusses to up new VIA passenger terminal work speed

Maldives government has discussed with Saudi Fund to pace up the work speed of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).

At the forefront of the discussion from Maldives Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed was flanked with Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar and Maldives Airports Company Limited's (MACL) managing director Adil Moosa.

Speaking with Avas Online economic minister Saeed said the delegation had discussed with Saudi Fund finish the new passenger terminal's main construction works by end of 2018.

Saudi's Bin Laden Group was assigned with the development of the new passenger terminal of VIA - the largest segment of the developmental project - on May 21, 2016.

The group's Abdul Aziz bin Bin Laden spoke at the project awarding ceremony stating that the corporation had previously concluded similar projects successfully, adding it was an honor to be granted with the responsibility of the airport development project by Maldives government.

Though other segments of the VIA development project had continued in a fast pace, the passenger terminal development had continued sluggishly. The project was awarded to the group for a total of USD 300 million.

While Saudi's Bin Laden will be developing the new passenger terminal China's BUCG is tasked with the development of both the new runway and apron at the airport island.
