Criminal Court on Wednesday has ordered to shift south-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof to house arrest until the conclusion of his ongoing trial.
The first hearing of state prosecuted terrorism charges against the lawmaker took place at court on Wednesday afternoon; which ended with judge passing the order to shift Mahloof from Maafushi penitentiary to house arrest.
The lawmaker is tried with terrorism charges for his direct involvement in a protest carried in front of Maafushi prison on February; where the MP had distributed masks to protestors.
Mahloof has been under police custody since February 22 during the state of emergency declared earlier on February 5 by incumbent president Abdulla Yameen.
Maldives Police had also requested to prosecute the lawmaker for posting two tweets against the current regime.
Authorities had ordered to incarcerate the prominent lawmaker twice previously.
