Opposition challenges to 'remove' incumbent Maldives Pres

Prominent opposition lawmaker and former parliament Speaker had claimed the Maldives United Opposition - the anti-government multi party coalition - would have its success in reform work after constitutionally

The north Henveiru lawmaker Abdulla Shahid had noted that the opposition aims to bring an end to a failed administration.

In a political rally at the upper northern Haa Alif atoll Ihavandhoo, while speaking with the people of the island Shahid stressed the public wishes for the incumbent president to resign and cease his administration. He also added that the opposition is close to winning the political 'altercation.'

The opposition lawmaker had severely criticized Maldives head of state for imprisoning several dissenting voices including Yameen's half-brother former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Shahid also said that president Yameen has attempted to silent any attempts by opposition or public to raise voice against the corruption and autocracy of his regime.

Shahid had strongly stated the Maldives public would not be intimidated and dissenting political voices cannot by silenced by any ruler and their unjust would be held accountable.
