Maldives Criminal Court has scheduled the trial hearings of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom along with Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed on Tuesday afternoon.
The three were arrested by local authorities almost immediately after the presidential decree of state of emergency back in February 5. All three are alleged with direct involvement to overthrow the government with other individual charges pressed against them.
Criminal Court had scheduled their hearings at 15:00hrs on Tuesday afternoon.
The trio's hearing for today is related to the state pressed charge of non-compliance to authority and attempt of interrupting legal conduct.
All three of them are tried for refusing to provide security details of their respective smartphones as well as opting discretion regarding the whereabouts of their mobile devices; which were items of interest in police investigation.
Moreover the former president, chief justice and top-court judge are also being prosecuted under terrorism charges. According to local terrorism act all three are alleged with the involvement of varying acts of terrorism. Both chief justice and top-court judge Hameed are also tried for accepting bribe as well.
Criminal Court had earlier ordered the three will be kept in remanding until the duration of their trial.
