Maldives Election Commission has assured they will finance all registered and active political parties according to local Constitution before the due date.
The electoral watchdog made the statement after several opposition parties expressed concern about not receiving the government apportioned financing to any of the political parties on the opposition's end.
EC's member Ahmed Akram who spoke with Avas Online confirmed they are currently attending all administrative procedures prior to the provision of finance to the parties; adding that they would receive before the legally set due date.
According to Maldives Constitution all active and legitimate political parties should receive financing within three months after the state budget is approved - but the time-frame is calculated excluding government holidays.
Under the amendments brought to political parties act the election commission would only be financing political parties with 10,000 or more registered members.
