Maldives Police returns cellphones of RaajjeTV journalists

Maldives Police Service has returned the cellphones of two RaajjeTV employees who were arrested earlier during the state of emergency.

The channel's senior journalist Mohamed Wisam and its programs head Amir Saleem had their mobile devices confiscated by the local police following a string of videos went viral depicting what seemed like a 'rogue' faction of the Maldives Police Service issuing warning to the state for the immediate cease of the emergency and release prisoners.

Both Wisam and Saleem were prime suspects whom the authorities had apprehended for possibilities of involvement in the stint.

Though both RaajjeTV employees were arrested by authorities on March 16 for the allegation, they were released on March 27 after local police had failed to turn in any compelling evidence against them.

However Maldives Police is still probing the case and had released both Wisam and Saleem through court after conditioning them to request for formal permission before leaving town.
