Coastguard refuses to give up hope on missing teens

Its been a week since two teenage boys out swimming in the southernmost Atoll Addu City went missing. Despite only finding items of clothing believed to be of the missing teens, coastguard divers have refused to give up hope on finding the teens aged 14 and seventeen.

Three teenage boys were out swimming when they were caught in a strong current.

One of the boys was saved by a man with special needs who was at the beach along with two women.

Hassan Didi - a mute was alerted to the cries for help by two women who were at the beach at the time. Didi had immediately jumped in but had only managed to save one of the boys while the other two were swept away to sea.

Coastguard has been searching the area by air and sea and had also deployed a diving robot to aid the search.

Coastguard spokesperson Captain Ibrahim Azim on Saturday said 297 nautical miles have been searched. He vowed to continue the search insisting that the coastguard still had hope of finding the teens.
