Police arrest Dhihdhoo council president

Maldives Police Service has arrested the opposition aligned Haa Alif atoll Dhihdhoo council president Ali Hashim.

Authorities had him arrested after raiding his residence at home island Dhihdhoo sometime around late Tuesday night. The court order issued from Haa Alif Ihavandhoo cited the council president was in possession of illegal documents.

Furthermore authorities suspect Hashim's involvement in sending illicit documents to Local Government Authority (LGA) back in March. Hashim was arrested to prevent him from colluding the evidences related to the case.

While Dhihdhoo council president has been apprehended by authorities, the government body has been at disputes with Housing Ministry regarding the social housing units at the Haa Alif island.

LGA had previously suspended Ali Hashim for compiling a separate housing scheme winners right after Housing Ministry had issued a formal list.
