A Maldivian national has been apprehended by Sri Lankan authorities carrying several amounts in illicit narcotic substances.
Sri Lankan authorities confirm the arrested Maldivian citizen was carrying 2.39 kilograms of heroin and was stopped at the airport security upon discovering the items on the individual.
The confiscated heroin is reported to have a 'street-value' worth of USD 300,000 or more. Meanwhile the Maldivian national awaits being summoned to Sri Lankan courts for remand processing.
While a Maldivian individual carrying a large amount of heroin was nabbed by Sri Lankan authorities, two more locals who carried a total of 1,925 ecstasy (party drug) pills with them were arrested by Lankan police last week.
