Crew injured in fuel vessel explosion brought to capital

The crew member who had suffered severe burn injuries after the generator aboard a fuel vessel docked at Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru island harbour exploded was brought to the capital Male for further treatment.

The yet unidentified Sri Lankan national had suffered severe burn injuries to the arms and legs is being treated at the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the capital Male.

The generator reportedly exploded due to overheating as the injured crew had attempted to turn it off.

Ungoofaaru hospital had said the burns had affected 60 percent of the Sri Lankan's body.

A local crew member had also been injured in the incident.
