Man injured in speedboat explosion

An explosion aboard a speed launch left one injured on Friday.

The incident took place aboard a speed launch leaving V. Fulidhoo's lagoon early Friday. According to Fulidhoo Council, the explosion took place as the speedboat was departing from Fulidhoo at around 8:30 am. The reason for the explosion was due to petrol spilled on the boat's engine catching fire when the engine was started.

Six people were aboard the vessel at the time, including five passengers and the boat's captain. Serious injuries were sustained by the boat's captain. No passengers were hurt in the incident.
