Renowned professor compares Maldives politics with circus

Renowned Maldives professor Hassan Ugail has heavily criticized the island nation's political spectrum comparing it with the likes of that of a circus.

Ugail who is a popular figure among the youths of the Indian Ocean archipelago due to his academic achievements and transparent ideology towards local politics had shunned the country's politicians.

According to the island nation's very first to attain professorship, Ugail said the Maldives political spectrum "lacks visionary policies beneficial to the country and has little do with the people in general."

The mathematician who has kept a considerable distance from Maldives politics over the years has surprisingly made strong politically related statements and criticized several social and political issues in the nation through his tweets.

Though not frequent but Ugail tweets strong statements related to the island nation's political issues since recent months.

Ugail had also accused the local politicians of pushing their own personal agenda over the people's needs and mocked the political system comparing it to a circus.

"It’s nearly a circus with the self appointed political characters being solely fixated on keeping their egos in check," Ugail tweeted.

The professor's tweet had since attracted some backlash and reciprocation from several individuals from the local political arena. One such criticism was drawn from Gan constituency member Fayyaz Ismail who claimed Ugail would not be able to understand the island nation's political field by staying away from the country for too long.

Former foreign minister Ahmed Shaheed had also noted that Ugail's statement was harsh.

According to Shaheed many had endured several acts of torture and police brutality in their attempts for political reform.
